Rotterdam, 10.10.2025 — everox shares a milestone update as one of the 17 key partners in DETOCS (Data Enabling Transformation and Optimization towards Concrete Sustainability), a EU-funded PhD research network designed to revolutionize cement production by reducing CO₂ emissions via advanced data-driven process optimization.

Cement production accounts for roughly 8% of global carbon emissions, primarily due to clinker production. DETOCS addresses this challenge by combining cement chemistry fundamentals with predictive modelling to increase the use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), reduce the clinker factor, and deliver tailored, very low-carbon cements.

The DETOCS consortium

The consortium’s objectives match with the everox mission and vision to reduce CO2 emissions by phasing out virgin materials in concrete. Accordingly, as part of its engagement in DETOCS, everox has focused on development of predictive tools and sensors, material testing, and production of low carbon concrete. everox attacks CO2 emission reduction by upcycling end-of-life concrete to low carbon and high-quality aggregates and SCM. Once scaled up to process the 3.5 Bn tons of  concrete waste produced every year around the globe, everox has the potential to reduce the global cement production significantly.

The consortium supports 15 doctoral projects, jointly supervised by academic institutions and industrial partners, promoting close cooperation between theory and practice. everox plays a pivotal role in bridging science and industry: currently hosting several doctoral candidates, focused on enhancing the SCM, developing optimized low-emission concrete mixtures and predicting their long term performance, developing new sensors and tracking tools, to make upcycling plants more intelligent and adaptive.

“At everox, we believe sustainability demands more than vision — our process is based on science, collaboration, and execution. Our engagement in DETOCS underscores our commitment to turning deep scientific insight into scalable low-carbon cement solutions, and we find in the consortium strong partners who share our beliefs.”

Bridging theory and practice - DETOCS Training Schools

This strong partnership ensures that DETOCS is not only scientifically ambitious but also industry-anchored. The program fosters knowledge exchange across Europe through training schools and workshops in topics spanning cement and concrete technology, data modelling, and entrepreneurship. Already held events include sessions on cement and concrete across France, Italy, and Switzerland; a workshop on entrepreneurial skills is planned for November in the Netherlands.

The DETOCS Training School will take place at the everox offices, located at the CIC in the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam. The CIC, is a coworking space, rewarded by the Financial Times as one of Europe’s leading start-up hubs, and is therefore the ideal environment for the Training School on entrepreneurship.

The DETOCS project is funded by the Horizon Europe research and innovation program under Marie Skolodowska-Curie (grant agreement No 101119929).
